We are always delighted at every new community outreach attempt amongst the LabVIEW users. A new project recently emerged, from Jonathan Hobson, who created the Quick Drop Podcast dedicated to LabVIEW and people involved with its development.
The Maker
So far Jonathan has released 4 episodes in the Quick Drop Podcast. The zeroth episode is an introductory one about Jonathan himself and his motivation for creating the podcast. We definitely agree with his points: Podcasts are useful and the LabVIEW community was in dire need of one.
Jonathan works as a Systems Engineer at TBG Solutions. TBG Solutions is a UK based testing, measurement and control company, working with clients such as BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, Siemens and Pilkington.
The Episodes
The first episode features guest speaker Neil Crossan, a CLA who works in ATE development, mainly with the cRIO platform. Above all, they explain, in detail the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities of working with Real Time OS based systems.
The second episode is a summation of the NI Days London 2018, a very influential event in the UK. Jonathan explains how the NI Days has changed over time in the UK, becoming much more conferencing and networking orientated.
In the third episode, Jonathan is joined by Tom McQuillan, also a CLA, who is a software dev at Scientifica, a bioinformatics company. To our greatest surprise and pleasure, Hampel Software Engineering was also mentioned, due to our CI methods and a presentation on release automation that we gave at different user group meetings. Furthermore, they discussed the benefits and hardships of using various version control systems, cloud providers and Jenkins.
GDevCon
Much to our delight, both Jonathan and his guests have repeatedly mentioned GDevCon, and very fondly too. Rumour has it that there’s much more to come 😉
GDevCon is the first independent conference for graphical programming, which we are proud to be co-organising. You can find all the information on gdevcon.com.
After the success of last year’s conference, the second GDevCon will take place between the 21st and 22nd of August, 2019, in Birmingham, a major industrial centre of the UK. The venue has been particularly selected to comfortably accommodate all the new participants expected. We hope to see you there!
Conclusion
In conclusion, we eagerly await more episodes in the podcast, and we hope it may inspire other members to start their own engaging projects. Keep up-to-date with Jonathan’s podcast on the web, Spotify, Google Podcasts and many other platforms.
Thank you, Jonathan! Big shout-out!!
