Discover the latest LabVIEW insights from our second NOBLUG #01 meeting. It was part of the Yotta Volt TechDays in Edinburgh on June 25, 2024. This exciting event featured key presentations on software testing, the synergy of LabVIEW and TestStand, and modular application design. Let’s recap some highlights.
The Big Picture: YottaVolt TechDays
Last week, we were fortunate enough to join forces with the wonderful team at Yotta Volt during their TechDays event in Edinburgh. Such an environment of excitement and tech-driven energy was the perfect set-up for our second NOBLUG meeting.
The agenda for the Yotta Volt TechDays featured a dynamic lineup, starting with a keynote on addressing future testing challenges by Yotta Volt and NI, followed by updates on LabVIEW and TestStand. Attendees then explored mixed-signal instrumentation with Python and the journey of automated lab validation. After lunch it was finally time for NOBLUG to take center stage with insightful discussions and presentations.
Ioan kicked off the session with a brief introduction, sharing insights about HSE and the User Group’s initiative. Despite some initial reluctance from new attendees, Ioan’s warm welcome and emphasis on community engagement quickly put everyone at ease.
Just NOBLUG Things
The first presentation, “Why, How, and When You Should Test Your Software?” by Pete, delved into the crucial aspects of software testing. His talk covered best practices and strategies for effective testing, sparking an engaging discussion among attendees about their experiences with hardware testing and sharing useful tips on improving testing methodologies.
Next, Henrique presented “LabVIEW & TestStand – Better Together,” showcasing the powerful combination of these two tools. He highlighted the productivity gains and ease of use that come from integrating LabVIEW with TestStand, even for those not deeply familiar with TestStand. Henique’s examples demonstrated how this synergy can simplify workflows, leading to a productive discussion on the comparative benefits of different sequencing approaches in LabVIEW.
After a well-deserved break filled with lively conversations and networking, Ioan returned to deliver a captivating session titled “DAQ, HAL, Requirements, Salad.” The audience engaged in a hands-on demonstration of designing a modular application based on specific requirements. With practical examples and detailed explanations, Ioan provided valuable insights into the process of modular application design.
At the End of the Day: A Growing LabVIEW Community
The positive energy from the NOBLUG session continued into the social part of the Yotta Volt TechDays event. Attendees were eager to share ideas and forge new connections. As the day concluded with a happy hour, offering drinks, networking, and demonstrations on using NI software to enhance workflow efficiency, the overall sentiment was one of enthusiasm.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Pete and Henrique for their informative presentations. Special thanks to Ralph and his dedicated team at Yotta Volt for hosting us and ensuring the event’s success. We are very grateful for your enthusiastic participation and are excited about the continued growth and collaboration within our LabVIEW community. We hope to see you again at our next NOBLUG meeting.
